Service Description

This class is held at our Potrero Hill Studio Let's Make Flowers Tuesdays @6pm April 16th - May 21st This course will help anyone feel confident making several kinds of flowers. I’ll be teaching a variety of different techniques, so by the end every student can feel more comfortable making them! Week 1: Roses 1 The students will learn to tackle the single biggest challenge in making ceramic flowers – the thinness of the petals. Each student will work with 6 grams of clay from which to make at least eleven petals! Students will learn 4 different ways to make a rose: a) petal by petal b) roll out c) from outside to inside d) pencil technique Week 2: Roses 2 The students will learn how to make a bigger, more realistic rose using the petal by petal technique! The students will have 3 different kinds of petal patterns to achieve it. The goals of this class will be to make a rosebud, a traditional rose, and an open rose. Week 3: Narcissus and tulips The students will learn how to make cylindrical shapes to achieve the center of a Narcissus. Also in this class students will learn to use stems and a base to hold the flowers that we make during the class. Students will learn techniques to support the stem and flowers as the clay dries. Week 4: Succulents There are so many kinds of succulents! In this class, we’ll all be making succulents, but each student will pick their favorite type. Students will be able to learn from doing their own, and from seeing how the other students approach their own favorite. Week 5: Final project Students will develop their projects using the techniques that they have learned in this course. Students will build a support structure on which they will build a bouquet with flowers and leaves. The support could be slabs, pots, branches, or whatever inspires them. Week 6: Glazing and Final Details Students will have time to finish their projects and apply glaze to their projects!
