Service Description

This class is held at our Potrero Hill Studio Wednesdays @ 6pm October 2nd - November 6th In this class you will learn how to conceptualize and construct ceramic flowers using a variety of hand building techniques. This class will also explore decorating techniques to accentuate the forms you create. This class is all levels. All inclusive including: - 25lbs of clay - 5 weeks of 2.5 hours of instruction - Unlimited use of studio during open studio hours - Firing fees - Glazes Week 1 Roses 1 The students will learn to tackle the single biggest challenge in making ceramic flowers – the thinness of the petals. Each student will work with 6 grams of clay from which to make at least eleven petals! Students will learn 4 different ways to make a rose: a) petal by petal b) roll out c) from outside to inside d) pencil technique Week 2 Roses 2 The students will learn how to make a bigger, more realistic rose using the petal by petal technique! The students will have 3 different kinds of petal patterns to achieve it. The goals of this class will be to make a rosebud, a traditional rose, and an open rose. Week 3 Narcissus and tulips The students will learn how to make cylindrical shapes to achieve the center of a Narcissus. Also in this class students will learn to use stems and a base to hold the flowers that we make during the class. Students will learn techniques to support the stem and flowers as the clay dries. Day 4 Succulents There are so many kinds of succulents! In this class, we’ll all be making succulents, but each student will pick their favorite type. Students will be able to learn from doing their own, and from seeing how the other students approach their own favorite. Week 5 Final project Students will develop their projects using the techniques that they have learned in this course. Students will build a support structure on which they will build a bouquet with flowers and leaves. The support could be slabs, pots, branches, or whatever inspires them. Week 6 Glazes and final details Students will have time to finish their projects and apply glaze to their projects!

Cancellation Policy

Fees & class schedule: Class fees cover instructed class time (as listed in specific class schedule), use of tools and equipment, open studio hours, studio glazes and firing up to 25 lbs of clay. Additional work may be fired for a fee. Pottery class fees include 25 lbs of clay + wood classes include all lumber Classes are subject to change if minimum student quota isn't met (7 students). Class switches will only be available 1 week prior to the commencement of classes and based on the capacity of classes at time of request.​ Attendance: It is mandatory for all students who are new to the studio attend the first week of classes. No “make-up” classes are given but you're more than welcome to drop-in on another session if there is an opening or absence. For Adult classes, Kids must be 14-years old or older Personal belongings: Any items left behind 30-days after last class may be discarded without notice. Refund policy: Class fees are non-refundable and non-transferable. Refund or Credit (minus $20 processing fee) if a request for refund is received TWO WEEKS and only two weeks before the start of a class. Credit (no refund) with less the 48 hour notice ONLY if your spot can be filled. No refunds or credits after attending 1st class. Classes missed due to failure to attend, planned absences, minor illnesses or vacations will not be credited for future classes. One-Time class registrations such as Drop-In Clay or Friday Night Clay are considered final ONE WEEK before start of class. Open studio hours for students: Monday- Thursday: 10AM-6PM Friday & Saturday: 10AM-9PM Sunday 10AM-7:30PM (Hours subjected to change upon five days' notice)
