Next Step Wheel (Session 8.5, 5 Week)

Service Description

This class is held at our Potrero Hill Studio Next Step Wheel (5 week session) Tuesday @ 6 pm from November 18th-January 6th (Intermediate) 6-weeks of wheel throwing designed for those individuals who are already acclimated with wheel throwing, but want to further their skills and take it to the next level. Break Week (Thanksgiving): There will be a break between Week 1 and Week 2 for the Thanksgiving holiday. The studio will be open for Open Studio Monday–Wednesday, but closed Thursday and Friday for the holiday. Holiday Break (Christmas & New Year): There will be a break between Weeks 4 and 5 for the Christmas and New Year Holiday Curriculum: Week 1 – Intro, Bowls & Test Tiles Studio tour, introductions, and goal-setting. Use notebooks for sketches and notes. Demo throwing on bats, shaping bowls, and creating interior curves with ribs. Make bottomless test tiles and learn their purpose. End with cleanup and studio etiquette demo. Week 2 – Bottles & Trimming Centering refresher and throwing bottles with narrow necks. Alternate pulling and collaring to refine shape. Use ribs for smoothing and trimming bowls on bats for clean symmetry. Burnish at leather-hard stage. Label work and begin firing test tiles. Week 3 – Jars, Lids & Glaze Room Trim bottles using chucks. Throw jars and lids together, using calipers for fit and forming galleries. Explore lid styles (flange, inset, upright). Tour glaze room, review labeling and safety, and begin first test-tile firings. Week 4 – Finishing & Final Wet Work Last week for wet work—everything must be on the greenware rack by end of class. Trim and fit lidded forms or teapots. Optional demos on joins, surface design, or underglaze. Review drying, labeling, and bisque prep. Week 5 – Glazing & Finishing Glaze review: single/double dips, pouring, brushing, oxide washes, and wax resist. Learn to glaze large or complex forms and interpret test tiles. Emphasize clean foot rings, even glaze coverage, and labeling. All glazed work must be on the glaze cart by end of class.

Cancellation Policy

Fees & class schedule: Class fees cover instructed class time (as listed in specific class schedule), use of tools and equipment, open studio hours, studio glazes and firing up to 25 lbs of clay. Additional work may be fired for a fee. Pottery class fees include 25 lbs of clay + wood classes include all lumber Classes are subject to change if minimum student quota isn't met (7 students). Class switches will only be available 1 week prior to the commencement of classes and based on the capacity of classes at time of request.​ Attendance: It is mandatory for all students who are new to the studio attend the first week of classes. No “make-up” classes are given but you're more than welcome to drop-in on another session if there is an opening or absence. For Adult classes, Kids must be 14-years old or older Personal belongings: Any items left behind 30-days after last class may be discarded without notice. Refund policy: Class fees are non-refundable and non-transferable. Refund or Credit (minus $20 processing fee) if a request for refund is received TWO WEEKS and only two weeks before the start of a class. Credit (no refund) with less the 48 hour notice ONLY if your spot can be filled. No refunds or credits after attending 1st class. Classes missed due to failure to attend, planned absences, minor illnesses or vacations will not be credited for future classes. One-Time class registrations such as Drop-In Clay or Friday Night Clay are considered final ONE WEEK before start of class. Open studio hours for students: Monday- Thursday: 10AM-6PM Friday & Saturday: 10AM-9PM Sunday 10AM-7:30PM (Hours subjected to change upon five days' notice)
