Service Description
This class is held at our Potrero Hill Studio Tableware is on Sundays @ 4 pm from November 23rd-January 11th Important Schedule Notes Break Week (Thanksgiving): There will be a break between Week 1 and Week 2 due to the Thanksgiving holiday. The studio will be open for Open Studio Monday–Wednesday, but closed Thursday and Friday for the holiday. Holiday Break (Christmas & New Year): There will be a break between Week 4 and Week 5 for the Christmas and New Year holidays. Classes will resume the first week of January on Monday, January 5th Learn all the techniques that you need to create everything to fill your Kitchen and dining room table! Improve upon your abilities to center large amounts of clay, shaping forms with volume in mind, and creating matching sets. This class will cover bowls, plates, cups, pitchers, platters and more! Week 1: Large Bowls & Platters Explore form and volume through large bowls and platters. Focus on centering clay low and wide, even compression, and controlled width. Demo centering larger amounts of clay, refining profiles with ribs, and managing wall thickness and drying to avoid cracking. Discuss platter proportions and safe removal from bats. Label and dry pieces slowly under plastic. Week 2: Dinner & Salad Plates Throw matching sets with focus on consistency and proportion. Demo throwing off the hump, compressing bases to prevent warping, and shaping flat bases with gentle rims. Trim with beveled or gallery feet for stacking. Encourage individuality within cohesive sets. Week 3: Goblets, Tea Cups & Teapots (Part I) Work on multipart forms emphasizing balance and precision. Demo throwing tall cylinders for cups and stems, forming goblets, and throwing teapot bodies, lids, and spouts separately. Introduce handle-making (pulled, coiled, slab-built) and discuss design cohesion across sets. Keep pieces wrapped for assembly next week. Week 4: Teapot Assembly & Final Wet Work Final wet week,All work must be on the greenware rack by end of class. Demo attaching spouts, handles, and lids, refining seams, and adding surface details. Offer spot demos and review drying and labeling best practices. Week 5: Glazing & Finishing Finish bisque-fired pieces with glazes, slips, or surface design. Review glaze options, layering, and wax-resist techniques. Demo dipping, pouring, and brushing for even coverage. Emphasize craftsmanship,clean bases, even thickness, and signed work. All glazed pieces must be on the cart by end of class

Cancellation Policy
Fees & class schedule: Class fees cover instructed class time (as listed in specific class schedule), use of tools and equipment, open studio hours, studio glazes and firing up to 25 lbs of clay. Additional work may be fired for a fee. Pottery class fees include 25 lbs of clay + wood classes include all lumber Classes are subject to change if minimum student quota isn't met (7 students). Class switches will only be available 1 week prior to the commencement of classes and based on the capacity of classes at time of request. Attendance: It is mandatory for all students who are new to the studio attend the first week of classes. No “make-up” classes are given but you're more than welcome to drop-in on another session if there is an opening or absence. For Adult classes, Kids must be 14-years old or older Personal belongings: Any items left behind 30-days after last class may be discarded without notice. Refund policy: Class fees are non-refundable and non-transferable. Refund or Credit (minus $20 processing fee) if a request for refund is received TWO WEEKS and only two weeks before the start of a class. Credit (no refund) with less the 48 hour notice ONLY if your spot can be filled. No refunds or credits after attending 1st class. Classes missed due to failure to attend, planned absences, minor illnesses or vacations will not be credited for future classes. One-Time class registrations such as Drop-In Clay or Friday Night Clay are considered final ONE WEEK before start of class. Open studio hours for students: Monday- Thursday: 10AM-6PM Friday & Saturday: 10AM-9PM Sunday 10AM-7:30PM (Hours subjected to change upon five days' notice)
