4/1: The first day of the workshop will be focused on establishing a philosophy toward working with plaster. Over the course of two sessions -  3 hours each – I will demonstrate a range of techniques, processes, and tools, including: measuring, mixing, preparing, cutting, sanding, hand-lapping, flattening, registration, cottle systems, soaping, and refining. Additionally I will cover wheel fundamentals, focusing on wedging, centering, throwing, shaping, working with templates, and compounding form.
4/2: The second day of the workshop will be split between demonstration and hands-on learning. Demonstrations will explore advanced and experimental concepts. Hands-on projects will be individualized based on participants' level of skill, however all will focus on the drinking vessel format. I will work with students to throw objects on the wheel, prepare cottles, and cast plaster shells to be cut, altered, and reassembled on day 3. Supplementarily, I might include impromptu lectures to expound upon mold-making theory.
4/3: The third day of the workshop will be dedicated to refinement.
The morning will be spent primarily with students working toward completing a mold system. The objective will be to complete a mold system that can be used in the future, post-workshop. Impromptu demonstrations will include registration, refinement, finishing, and removing soap (if necessary).
The afternoon will consist of a slip-casting demonstration that involves working with colored porcelain veneers and refining bisque-ware surfaces. Any remaining time will be dedicated to finishing student projects.
