Day 1: Explore techniques for achieving height with stability and intention. Students will practice centering larger amounts of clay, pulling tall consistent walls, and shaping balanced vertical forms. We will be starting with 1 pound of clay and working our way up to 5, 10, and 15 pounds. Day 2: Students will trim their pieces and explore surface decoration techniques using underglazes. Each participant will receive one greenware tile for practicing underglaze painting, and are welcome to bring their own bone-dry greenware to paint as well. (This kind of underglaze work is best applied at the bone-dry stage.) This workshop is ideal for potters looking to level up their throwing skills and add expressive surface detail to their work.
