Service Description
This class is held at our Potrero Hill Studio and is a 3 week class in session 5 Mocha Diffusion, Friday's @ 10:30-1:00PM beginning June 26th-July 17th **There will be no classes from June 29th to July 5th in observance of the July 4th holiday. The studio will be closed on July 3rd and July 4th, but open studio access will be available to students from June 29th to July 2nd and on July 5. Regular classes resume with Week 2 starting July 6th.** In this three week course, students will delve into the surface design technique called mocha diffusion. This technique utilizes an alkaline slip base and an acidic colorant base to create vibrant dendritic trees on the slip. Students will walk away with their own slip and teas to apply on their pieces. Week 1: Making our slip and tea -Students will have a brief overview of the history of mocha diffusion and a demonstration on leather hard clay. -Students will then weigh raw materials and mix their own slip. -Students will then create their own mocha “tea” bases with an assortment of acids to create the base of their teas. -Making work to apply diffusion in week 2 Week 2: Applying the mocha slip and tea -Students will apply the slip and tea onto leather hard pieces in order to create their final forms. -Students will use different application techniques such as condiment bottles, pipettes and brushes to apply the slip and tea in order to achieve their desired outcome. Week 3: Glazing! -Students will watch demonstrations on how to properly glaze their pieces in order to preserve the patterns that they have created. -Students will learn how to glaze just the interior or exterior of their pieces.

Fees & class schedule: Class fees cover instructed class time (as listed in specific class schedule), use of tools and equipment, open studio hours, studio glazes and firing up to 25 lbs of clay. Additional work may be fired for a fee. Pottery class fees include 25 lbs of clay + wood classes include all lumber Classes are subject to change if minimum student quota isn't met (7 students). Class switches will only be available 1 week prior to the commencement of classes and based on the capacity of classes at time of request. Attendance: It is mandatory for all students who are new to the studio attend the first week of classes. No “make-up” classes are given but you're more than welcome to drop-in on another session if there is an opening or absence. For Adult classes, Kids must be 14-years old or older Personal belongings: Any items left behind 30-days after last class may be discarded without notice. Refund policy: Class fees are non-refundable and non-transferable. Refund or Credit (minus $20 processing fee) if a request for refund is received TWO WEEKS and only two weeks before the start of a class. Credit (no refund) with less the 48 hour notice ONLY if your spot can be filled. No refunds or credits after attending 1st class. Classes missed due to failure to attend, planned absences, minor illnesses or vacations will not be credited for future classes. One-Time class registrations such as Drop-In Clay or Friday Night Clay are considered final ONE WEEK before start of class. Open studio hours for students: Monday- Wednesday: 10AM-6PM Thursday: 10AM-8:30PM Friday & Saturday: 10AM-9PM Sunday 10AM-7:30PM (Hours subjected to change upon five days' notice)
